2018 Project Highlights

2018 was a year filled with interesting and challenging projects. Below is a summary of several of our favorites.
Project Highlights
- 51 North Taproom website
- PhyMed Healthcare Group website redesign
- Cub Cadet Ultima front-end development
- Climate Nashville website
51 North Taproom website
After serving the 12 South neighborhood since 2006, Nashville natives, Jamy Borda and Will Shuff searched for the perfect location for a new taproom and finally found it in The Nations. We worked with Jamy and Will directly to build a website that showcases the eclectic vibe of their new taproom. The on-tap page is my personal favorite. It is updated in near real time when the kegs change.
Our Role
Strategy, wireframing, UX, design & development
Partners
Caitlyn Holland assisted with the design and design direction
Key Strategies
- Don't be one of those restaurant websites who hides your address, hours and phone number. You know—the most important details for a restaurant
- Use photos to showcase the interior of restaurant as well as all of the tasty menu items
- Website must load in under 3 seconds on first visit, less than that on subsequent visits
- Utilize concise, scannable copy and clear primary navigation elements
Favorite Tech Nuggets
- Local TN beers are highlighted with a TN tri-star icon
- We wrote a custom CMS plugin to assist publishing beers on draft. The plugin populates most of the data like ABV, brewer, etc. Once a beer is entered into the CMS, it can be added again simply by enabling the entry.
- Almost all content is cached locally in the web browser after the first visit to increase perceived and actual performance on subsequent visits. Data gets refreshed in the background on each return page visit
- Site was built using Next.JS, which provides server-side and client-side rendering, code-splitting, pre-fetching, etc
- Web server uses in-memory cache to limit requests to the Content API
- Utilizes a global content delivery network for all images, videos, stylesheets and scripts

Cub Cadet Ultima front-end development
We've been working with the Cub Cadet team and other MTD Products brands for many years. This project was particularly interesting as the product is built in Martin, TN and the design of the Ultima is really appealing to the eye.
Our Role
Front-end development and optimization
Key Strategies
- Use lazy loading image technique to increase page speed for a content heavy page
- Use clean, semantic HTML
- Optimized all images used on the page to reduce file size and overall page size

Climate Nashville website
As part of our giving back to the Nashville community initiative, we volunteered to build a website for Climate Nashville. They are doing great work to promote renewable energy, reduced pollution and improved community health in our city. With a proper website, Climate Nashville can now reach a broader audience of concerned citizens and volunteers. They are very active and it really shows when you review all of the campaigns that they have worked on.
Our Role
Strategy, design & development
Key Strategies
- Engage with the Nashville community
- Use web presence to promote the vision and objectives of the non-profit
- Share climate news and events to inform and mobilize Climate Nashville volunteers
